Since late 2015 we’ve had the idea tocreate a dynamic, innovative gameplay nmechanic which would evoke traditionalbattle briefings and also slightly break noff with the static side of Wargame.We wanted to make something unique that nmerges fluidity, reactivity and realismand that you could understand in nreal-time just at a glance without being toointrusive. “TheDynamic Front Line nwas a technical and design challenge that was a pleasure totake on.” according ntoKarim Kadar, Lead Gameplay/AI developer, “I can’t wait to see it in the nplayers’ hands!” It was a massive amount of work tofind the right tool and the nright balance, but it was definitely worth it. TheDynamic Front Line as it nappears today gives the game all its flavour and opensup multiple gameplay npossibilities.

Assimple as it may seem, don’t forget to regularly zoom out to really see nhow thematch is unfolding and to spot decisive confrontations.
Withsome experience, you’ll be an expert in reading the front line’s ncurves. Eachbend is well-thought and gives you some information about the forces ninvolved.The more distant the front line is from your unit, the more distant the nenemyunit is from its side, more or less. But don’t always trust everything you nseeas more enemy units can be nearby, hidden or in support.
Salientsare therefore valuable information to decipher in order to lead nyour troops.This kind of situation is perfect to reach a breakthrough but also ncomes withits share of risks. If your units get bypassed and trapped in a npocket, theywill be more likely to get killed or captured. And breaking out in nthesecircumstances is not the easiest thing to do.

Thefront line is also a tactical instrument that facilitates the nunderstanding ofthe battlefield as a whole. This feature is what enables you to ntake a step backand have a global view which helps you make the best ndecisions.
Everypart of the map has its importance now. You must choose what deserves nyourattention. You must consider the most effective strategy at any given ntime,even if you have to deviate from your initial plan, as losses grow noropportunities come to pass. Ingame events shape the front line in an nalwaysunique way. Is it better to hold your position or attempt a breakthrough? nDoyou have to abandon the “hedgerow hell” for some safer urban areas? Does a ntanks column forces you towithdraw?
Itsimplifies the action without making it simplistic. Indeed, if one nplayerpushes in one direction, it is impossible to tell the strength nor the nnumberof troops he’s bringing forward just by looking at the map. The opponent nhas tosee them through his units’ eyes. And in the hand of a sneaky player, the nfrontline can be a very good tool to misinform his opponent …
